The answer is flexibility. Knee Mills are capable of a whole bunch of things that are more trouble on a Bed Mill: Tilt the head to machine at an angle. On a Bed Mill, you'll have to set the workpiece at an angle to accomplish the same. That's going to be more trouble and potentially require more expensive fixtures.
