Gears generally need a hole in the middle to be useful so be sure to maintain concentricity when sorting that out. For individual gears, put the hole in and over size blank, mount to a true arbour and finish turn to size at that setting before cutting the teeth. Nov 16, 2011· Exactly, I had to cut out a panel over the weekend on my Sherline mill I took 67 passes each a little deeper to keep from breaking off the bit ( mm carbide bit) with CNC it puts it back in the exact spot over and over with each pass going a little deeper. .

I know the proper way to mill gears is with an involute gear cutter or a gear hob and a rotary table or A axis. However I don't think you could even make these "double gears" with this method. What I'd like to do is just throw some brass sheet stock in the CNC mill and mill it out using progressively smaller end mills.
